I keep reading about how the Red Sox have all these guys who concentrate on the analytics. The state of the bullpen kinda makes you long for the days when they employed guys to actually go out and watch other guys play baseball. I think they were called scouts.

Haha! I'm pretty sure they have a lot of scouts, Jim. I know they have a lot of amateur scouts, as evidenced by their last two drafts, both of which have been big successes, at least at the top of the draft.

What are your thoughts on the roster as a whole? After going through the whole thing, I think it's a lot better than they've shown so far.

No doubt, especially the hitters. I do think as the season wears on, the top six bats will carry the team. JBJ and Vazquez will contribute (but Vazquez makes me long for the day when the "keep one foot in the box" rule was enforced). I have no thoughts on Dalbec. I simply can't figure him out. Occam's Razor says "head case".

The 3 batter rule also makes borderline relief guys a crap shoot. Still, if most of the present staff stay healthy and the good hitters get consistent, I think better days are ahead.
