Ugly, ugly, ugly.

The Sox have good offensive numbers, but that’s entirely because Verdugo, JDM, Xander and Devers have OPS+ numbers between 151 and 218.

Unsustainable, even for them, and the lineup falls off a cliff after that.

The Sox knew they’d need to be patient with Dalbec and Franchy. They knew they would strike out a ton, just as Renfroe would.

They also knew fans and the media would get impatient before they did.

So what happens next, and when?

What happens next is the key and right now I'm guessing the answer is nothing. They're not going to jettison those guys after a month and a week, but at the same time, the only one who is signed beyond this season is Hernandez, so they aren't going to keep those guys around for contractual reasons.

That all said, there aren't an abundance of options right now. It's Duran, who I believe will be up by June, but as I wrote there are questions there, and also he doesn't solve the whole problem. They need one of those guys to give them league-average production. We'll see.

I didn't write about him, but I'm optimistic about Dalbec. We'll see how long they stick with him, but hopefully he comes around soon.

Thanks for reading, Walt!
