I'll Benny too, but the more I think about it, the more I think he might've needed a change of scenery. I still think he would've had a good season had he stayed in Boston, but on the whole this might do him some good. Thanks for reading!

Excellent analysis. As you note, it comes down to how the Red Sox view Benintendi going forward. He always had a high floor, but his ceiling was an All-Star OF — maybe a CF — with a great hit tool, power, speed and patience. He doesn’t look like he’s going to become that player, and this is the kind of decision MLB talent evaluators get paid big bucks to make.

Thanks, Walt. And I think you're exactly right. It would have been far easier for Bloom to come in and keep everyone. This team just won a championship after all, right? But I think that's an astute point. This is what they're paid for. I have my doubts right now, but as you note, they're paid the big bucks. We'll see how it turns out.

One more thought after listening to the podcast. Everyone evaluating this trade should resist the temptation to cast it as “Franchy v. Benny.” Cordero is one of FIVE players the Sox are receiving
