Can they start trading for prospects now? They aren’t going to sign Montgomery.

I mean, they kinda did trade for prospects when they dealt Sale for Grissom. Same with Verdugo for Fitts (and others). I'm not sure what else they should do right now on that front.

Plus, what's left to trade? They're not trading Devers, out of fear of people arriving at their houses with pitchforks. Everyone has talked about trading Jansen since he signed, but even the best relievers don't bring much. Story? Yoshida? You'd have to send a bunch of money and still get not much back.

All this on top of how they just sacked Bloom for not putting together a major league roster and getting locals checked-out enough that opposing fans were making more noise in Fenway Park. I can't speak for anyone else, but I need something to feel good about when watching the team in 2024, otherwise, what are we even doing here?

I’m 41 and this is the least amount of hope or optimism going into a season that I can recall in my entire lifetime. The Butch Hobson years of the early 90s were rough but even there you still had Clemens and a hopeful young core (Vaughn, Valentin, etc). 1997 had bad vibes but rookie Nomar provided some hope. 2020 was a disaster, but before they shut down spring training for Covid I still feel like there was more optimism than this year. Can you think of any other year like this? I suppose this is what it’s like to be a Pirates fan

This sure feels like it’s, as constructed and in light of the Giolito news, going to be a struggle to reach 75 wins.
