Can we start with the probability the those five starters accumulate a combined 500 innings? 50% maybe, if we're lucky? That's before the issue of effectiveness. Innings and effectiveness? Well, now there's the parlay, and I wouldn't bet on it!

According to the Athletic's Hope-O-Meter survey, Red Sox fans are slightly more optimistic about this season than A's fans, so at least there's that, I guess.

Thanks, Matt.

I’m also relatively bullish on all 5 current starters. I also believe they’ve improved the defense enough to keep all of them from having to get so many extra outs.

But someone’s going to get hurt, or pitch poorly, or both. Even the best pitching staff in the game can’t get through 162 games without 8-9 starters.

Even signing a meh starter like Lorenzen or Clevenger would make me feel a little better

If only they could sign Montgomery tomorrow and thereby make an impact pitching move at a time when one can almost never be made. January, sure. July, sure. But not a week + before Opening Day.

Exactly. I’m bullish on this starting 5, but also I don’t think I should be?
