The Red Sox strategy since winning the World Series in 2018 seems, broadly speaking, to have been, ‘create wins from air.’ Now, to be fair, there are some teams who can pull this off. Love the deal. It doesn’t come without risk, of course, and projecting a pitcher’s development is tricky.
But even if Bello is only a solid No. 3 starter, this is well worth it. He is a potential ace, but he isn’t getting anything close to ace money.
