I won’t lie to you. This hurts. It hurts a lot. I don’t want this season to end. I miss the 2021 Red Sox already. I miss Red Sox baseball. I didn’t want to lose to the Astros. I reeeeally didn’t want to lose to the Astros. But before I light the candles on a big ol’ pity party, a bit of context here, if I may. If I’d told you, or heck, told myself, back on April 1st that the Red Sox would win 92 games and eliminate the Blue Jays, Yankees, and Rays all in a two week period, and make it all the way to the ALCS, I’d have taken that. I’m betting you would’ve as well.
Regardless of how the season came to an end, it was a great run by a fun team. Raffy. Kiké. JD. X. Nasty Nate. Kyle Schwarber joined the party. Chris Sale came back to us. The scorching June. Sweeping the Nats to win a Wild Card spot. The Wild Card win over the Yankees. The Fenway fans going crazier then perhaps ever before. Beating the defending AL Champion Rays in the Division Series. Crushing Astros pitching in the ALCS. Ultimately, whether they were the last team standing or not, that season, that experience, was a good one.
And that experience wouldn’t have been as fun for me without you here. So thank you so much for reading and commenting and tweeting and everything else you’ve done to support Sox Outsider. I truly appreciate it. From my full heart, thank you.
The season is over, but that doesn’t mean Sox Outsider is going away. I’ll be back soon with a recap of Game Six (because I know you want to re-live that). We’ll have some player recaps and some other stuff and of course we’ll be following along with the Red Sox as they go through their off-season and reshape their roster in preparation for the 2022 season. I can’t wait.
So sincere thanks for reading, for subscribing, for commenting. I’m going to get a beer.
I enjoy your insight and am glad I came on board. Look forward to your fall and winter musings. Also for your perspective on the upcoming Collective Bargaining exercise. I simply do not trust Manfred. Enough said.
You've made an enjoyable season more so, Matt! Thanks, and I look forward to reading in the off season.
